2. Visual elements
a. Shape
- outline outward appearance of form / design
- antagonist vs protagonist

b. Size
- influence focal points of pictures
- create movements, depth

c. Colour
- hues and neutrals
- tonal and chromatic variations
- grey is a type of neutral colour
- give a sense or feeling by using different colour palettes

d. Texture
- create feeling
- silky, rough, bumpy, metallic, sandy

e. Direction
- using line or shape
- suggest a way to look at things

f. Space
- create depth
- create layer, ground floor, middle, background
- tone create depth

g. Gravity
- psychological illusion
- heaviness to lightness, stability and instability of shapes

h. Form
- important in 2D
- can be 2D & 3D but appears in 2D
- 2 groups of form:
   Natural form / Representational form: exist by nature, exp: animal, plants
   Abstract form / Artificial form: Human-made, exp: camera, book

3. Exercise: Natural & man-made illustration
- Find objects needed in the study space i want to create
- 5 natural, 5 man-made
- draw it as simple as it can, like an icon, easy to understand
- can have various elements but only focus on one element
- point, line, shape, volume

Objective: Learn to use Illustrator

Task: Create several patterns in class

Problem: Do not have a laptop

Solution: My classmate Sze Ching lend me her laptop and we share it together in class.

- What type of experience you want to create?

- physical environment, social interaction, emotional response, cultural context

- project schedule: who responsible for certain parts, complete at what time

- Budget and resources: what software needed - blender, illustrator, laptop, etc.
