Assignment 3: Exploring Abstract Interactions in Performative Media

Assignment Brief

Process
I follow back my storyboard to do this content. At first, I want to continue my drawing to create the content, but it takes too much time, and my drawing skill is really bad. Thus, I turn to 3D modelling and video editing, which is something I am better with when comparing to drawing. I started by creating scene 2, which is about the drum factory. As my Advanced Modelling and Animation assignment is also using the same content.

The process of creating the 3D models and animation is fun. I didn't have many challenges on it. I did have problem on thinking how do I present my content well. My original idea didn't involve any wordings as I want to convey the messages using the animation only. But I found that since I changed the method and the animation did not follow exactly how the scene should be portrayed, the viewers might find it hard to understand. So, I add in some wordings, but I limit it to very little wordings.

I add in the animation one by one for different scenes. Then, I add in background music, so it is livelier. My main target audiences are children, so I choose a cheerful music, colourful colour palette and simple words to make the whole content easy to understand and entertaining for them. Some of the scenes are being cut short or taken out as I find the projection is getting too long.

Reflection

The main challenge I face in this assignment is I found it hard to present the content as the way I intend to. My drawings are bad, and it takes too much time. Thus, I change it to 3D animation. But the scene is changed because creating those scenes for 3D are also taking too much time and it might become way too complicated as the content now are in 3D. I want to keep it simple, just like my original idea, this explains the glowing materials for the 3d objects. I want them to be lightly and simple as much as possible. Even though the presentation is still not up to the standard. But, I managed to convey the messages I wanted to convey. I am thankful for my lecturer and classmates for guiding me in this journey. I received a lot of constructive feedback and guidance which helps me to create this final production.

Finally, Performative Media helps me to understand more about creating contents. I did learn a lot in this course, to understand my audience, to create a cultural and meaningful content, to use different techniques to create contents, to create storyboards and more. In performative media, I learn to be creative, brainstorming different ideas consisting of new and advanced technologies like hologram, projection mapping and more to provide immersive, multisensory, and emotionally engaging experiences. It promotes creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and reflective practice.
