Assignment 02: AR Application Proposal

Assignment brief

In this assignment, we need to choose whether to form a group of 2 or individual do this project. I form a team with my friend, Renee. We need to choose one of our ideas from the last assignment, to form a completer and more detailed proposal for creating an AR application.

Progress

We just submitted our assignment 1 this week. So, me and Renee were just started to discuss which idea to choose or how do we combine our ideas. We think the most solid idea might be from Renee's BuildSight idea. We also discuss about this idea together before and we think that it can combine with a little bit of horror element which is from my AR horror game idea together. But we don't want it to be too gamify. Our focus is still on architecture. 

We decide to start on research first. I will be starting our research, while Renee will write a detailed and more complete on our project details. So, first, I start on doing building research and case study.

After that, I prepare a user survey form to get information from our target audience.

I post it on Facebook group to get respondents. 

Some results:

We have 13 respondents in total. But we use only 9 of the users' information as some of them are not usable due to many unanswered questions or too general answers. 

Week 5

Progress

After getting 10 respondents, I start to do user persona. I also send my research for Renee to review and get some opinions from her. After some discussion, we both think that the 99 doors mansion is good for our project. But, we would like to consult with lecturer before do any decision.

Consultation

We have a short consultation session with lecturer. Mr.Razif suggested that we can add teleport to help with the travelling inside the building. Instead of letting the users walkaround, we use teleport to smooth the transition from place to place. He also suggested that we need a clearer and detailed mockup and user journey. Overall, our project is fine, we just need to refine it more.

I do more research on this case study and building after the consultation. I have a small discussion with Renee to decide what building do we choose finally, and we chose 99 doors mansion in Nibong Tebal, Penang. 

Week 6

Consultation

We have a consultation with Mr. Razif online. We need to do user journey map just like what we do in our class exercise. We also need to create a more detailed prototype. Our project proposal is quite complete already. We just need to do some refinement. We also need to record a presentation video. 

Progress

During week 6, me and Renee are trying to finalize everything after the consultation. Renee have done the prototype before, now we just need to refine it by adding some more details. We do this part together. Then, we separate our tasks, Renee will do current user journey map while I need to create the future user journey map. I also create a comparison between our application with other current similar projects. I also added more information (what we learn from the case study) in our document. 

After all the works are done, we finally started to record our presentation video. We took a very long long time to record a complete video. There are so many problems pop up while we are trying to record. Sometimes my voice cannot be recorded, or Renee's camera cannot work properly, or lagging, or the meeting cannot be recorded. If we add up all the hours, we might took about 8 hours to record a 30 minutes presentation. We were frustrated, at the end, we were both tired. But, we managed to complete the presentation video.

Reflection

Throughout this assignment, I learn a lot about AR projects. As I was doing case study, I found so many interesting projects that I could learn so much from. I was also enjoying the process of doing building research. Reading all the histories and background stories are really fun, I learn so much about the old times and the people who bring influences on these beautiful and magnificent building. In this assignment, I also learn about teamwork, me and Renee work simultaneously to create balance between our tasks. We separate our task equally, so no one feels like they are doing the extra work. We also learn about each other preferences, abilities, strength and weakness, so that we can choose and assign task better in future. We respect each other opinions, and our discussion are always fun and full of laughter, we manage to create a positive learning environment together. I'd like to thank Renee for being such a great teammate. And, I would like to thank Mr. Razif for providing guidance along the journey. We learn a lot from our lecturer too.
