Assignment brief:

During week 1, we need to think of what topic we have module and assignment brief. For our first assignment, we need to first think of 3 ideas to propose for a thematic website design. The ideas need to be approved by our lecturer and pick one only to be the topic. 

During the class, we browse a lot of really good website. This gives me a lot of inspiration. After some brainstorming session, I come up with 5 ideas. 

Ideas: 

I have a lot of ideas. But, I think that in order to create something genuine and nice, I must choose something that I personally like or interest in. So, these are the topics that I have more interest in to create a website for it. 

For Dododots, I am one of their customers, their products are really cute and helpful. So, I think this is something I am related to. Besides that, their graphic and theme for the acne patches are versatile. This gives me a lot of space to explore around and create something nice.

I actually really want to do Vivienne Westwood Bridal collection, and I have think of the overall design for it. But, this idea might not be easy to be done because of the dress. I can't really recreate the dress, which makes it hard for me to insert something new that I created myself. I would need to rely on online materials a lot.

For Libroaria collaboration with Nana, I am a fan of this anime and always interest in their merchandise or any collaboration items. This is a new collaboration which I think is a good idea to promote it. Besides, I understand the anime myself, so I believe I can create something genuine. 

For Cakewalk, I will be joining this event in this coming June. I personally think that this has a lot of potential to let me explore. I can do 3d cake, create a cake world and etc. It would be fun. 

Then, lastly, my e-portfolio. I will be going for WBL next semester. It would be nice to have a well-developed website for my own e-portfolio. 

Reflection

I have fun in exploring these ideas. Thinking of it encourage and inspire me to create great design in future. I feel excited to create something fun. I am worried about my coding skills. I am not good at coding, so I will try my best to recreate the vision in my mind. 

Week 2

I have a short consultation with lecturer this week. Mr. Shamsul look at all of my ideas and found that the Dododots idea is the best. During our discussion, I briefly told him what I will be designing for each different topic. I also showed him my unfinished e-portfolio for my final idea. Mr. Shamsul advised to use a more formal font as decorative font makes people tired when looking at it for a long time. 

So, at the end, I will be using Dododots as my topic to create thematic website. I roughly think of a more well-developed idea for it, like what kind of interactive that I can do and explore in this website. 

First of all, I will definitely include 3D objects and simple animation, as this is something I am more comfortable with to create and this suits the concept so well. Recently, the advertising is getting more and more interesting and visually appealing. People now enjoy the beauty of graphic design and animation. I saw a few advertisement using 3D animation, and they all looks cute. I am always attracted to it when I saw one. So, I want to experience it by creating this myself. 

I have an idea to create a short interactive activity. It's about sticking a pimple patch onto a big pimple on screen. As the user scroll through the page, the pimple patch will stick onto the pimple, and if they scroll upwards, the pimple patch will get unattached again. I also set up what pages I will be including in this website.

I develop a concept design, some pages and key features. I also think of a minigame, something that we can use to get the preferences of the users. It's called Patch Designer. Basically, it's a series of questions (this or that), for user to choose and understand what pimple patches they suits and like most.

Week 3

I have another consultation with Mr. Shamsul. I showed him some of the work I have done and explain what's my vision like for the website design. Unfortunately, some of my features can't really work. For example, in this module, we won't learn about scrolling while having effect with it. So, I cannot really do the pimple patch animation, I could change it to a clicking trigger. But I felt like that lose a little bit of fun there. 

For all of my 3d animation, I could not include it in background and let it move when user scroll it. Again, I could change it to click trigger or just make it automatic. So, I decide to change it into an automatic version. 

I continue to think of new features to include in because right now, there wasn't any much interesting features included. When I was thinking, I was staring at my books. And suddenly, an idea pop up: What if I linked it with a story? Along with my previous concept, an idea developed really quick. I want to create a secret garden theme, inspired by the infamous novel 'Secret Garden' by Frances Hodgson Burnett. 

I write a short story inspired by this novel, and I linked it with Dododots. So, now this is Dododots's Secret Garden. Then, I developed the story pages. I linked everything with the theme of secret garden; it's like a whimsical place that is full of wonders.

Reflection

I have fun in exploring these ideas. Thinking of it encourage and inspire me to create great design in future. I feel excited to create something fun. I want to create something magical, inspiring, that the users will feel a sprint of dopamine increases. I want the user to feel happiness and lively while browsing the website. Dododots want to deliver a message about self-love and self-care. I would want to continue their spirit in my website design, that people shouldn't feel anxious when having skin problem. There is always a solution, and we all look nice, nonetheless. 

For the future, I am worried about my coding skills. I am not good at coding, so I will try my best to recreate the vision in my mind. Besides that, I can already sense the workload. I need to draw illustration for storybook, create 3D objects, use photoshop to compile image and etc. And on top of these, I need to do animation and coding. Again, I will try my best to create a beautiful and functional website. 

Through this proposal, I learn a lot more about brainstorming ideas, compiling ideas, consider the technical issues and how to express my vision clearly. I also learn to create an user flow that user could browse the website comfortably. I hope that in the future assignments, I can continue my spirit right now, energetic and exciting to create something.
