Assignment Brief:

Basically, we are going to join a competition organized by the brand - Honor. We are to join the Magic Lock category. We have different theme to choose from. Based on the chosen theme, we need to produce 2 version of poster that suits the magic lockscreen, one is for folding phone while another is for normal phone.

Week 7

I started on my poster design in this week. First, I gather inspiration from Pinterest. I want to do something about hometown and represent our country - Malaysia. I choose the theme: City Inspiration - Beauty, The scenery of hometown. 

Concept: 

From the rural town to the big city, I want to show the growth of hometown. As we are grwoing up, our hometown are growing too, with the technology, magnificent buildings and transportation. I want to relate the growth of humand and the place we grow on. Most importantly, I want to show the life and beauty of Malaysia. 

I started to sketch my idea out.

I put my progress and idea in the slides given by lecturer. During class, we have small progress updating. Lecturer choose the final sketch to be my project outline. So, I can use this as my base to draw the digital sketch and proceeds my project now. 

Week 8

During this week, I sketch out my sketches digitally in using Adobe illustrator. 

Next, I just try to gather all the images I needed to do this project, most of the photos are found online, only one photo taken by myself, and I also experiment with my own portrait and character photo given by the competition.

I first crop out all the object out and arrange them according to my sketch. This is my progress so far.

Week 9

During this week, I continue to work on my project. I add in more elements and change the background and character to get the most good looking outcome. I also try to change the clothing into batik materials to represent Malaysia more but it looks weird, so I take out this idea. 

During this week, I mostly experiment with different materials and arrangement of the buildings, so it won't look too crowded and complex. I try to create my vision for this project as much as possible. I use mostly select tool and masking and transform the object into the size and position I want. I adjust some of the photos' lighting and colour to match with the others. I also try to add in filter to blend all the pictures together well. 

 

I ask for opinions from my friends, and they give some good suggestion like take out the cow, because it is way too big and it doesn't goes well with the whole picture. Thus, I decide to change it to something else like peacock and Rhinoceros hornbills. 

 

This is my latest progress.

Week 10

In this week, we need to submit our project - poster design. I have developed two variations for my design. one is with blurred background while the other is black background. I create the poster design for the normal phone too with similar design but different arrangement. 

During class, I ask for opinion from my lecturer. Mr. Fauzi choose the black background as it looks better and I also need to add in the time, battery, basically ui elements as the sample shown. I need to produce a horizontal artwork too.
