Week 5: Concept Ideation + Storyboard

 

Lecture Class

In today's class, the lecturer give lesson about iteration design. Then, we proceed to discuss our progress for our project. We ask a few questions to have some clarification on the task we need to do. 

Week 5 Tasks

This week, we are supposed to do presentation and start on our concept ideation with storyboard. But most of us had not complete the content for presentation, so the presentation is postponed to next week. 

Concept Ideation + Storyboard

Below are my sketches for the concept ideation:

1. AI Robot Guidance

An AI robot that guides user to access information, perform interaction step-by-step and provide smart feedback based on user inputs.

2. AI-activated Spatial Environment 

Installation is activated when there’s a human (user) present. The AI panel also light up to encourage interaction. 

3. AI Spatial Environment Assistant

In previous user research, some of the user stated that they would prefer a more private and enclosed environment for enjoying the installation alone. In order to ensure that, an AI assistant is needed to ensure the number of people entering the room is limited. This needs an AI assistant in front of the entrance (of the room), this idea also needs CCTV or motion sensor in order to detect human presence. 

I have chosen idea 1: AI Robot Guidance, as my concept. This idea consists of an interface panel that has an AI robot system inside. The robot will be a guide or assistant in helping the user understand this installation and guide them through the interaction. It is able to provide a step-by-step instruction for engaging with the installation and provide smart feedback based on user inputs (for choosing songs). 

The panel will be situated besides the information board, near the entrance of the room. So, when the user comes into the room, it is very noticeable. The robot will give instructions on what to do, and through simple interaction, for example, clicking ‘next’ button, will bring the users to next page or next instructions. There is a facial scanner at the top corner of the panel. The scanner will scan the users’ faces and analyse the emotions based on it. After the analyzation, a song list will be produced based on the users’ emotions. Based on previous user research, the users prefer to have more selection and freedom on choosing songs. Thus, this idea expands the song lists provided, the songs are from 80/90s Hong Kong music too, but it includes more artists rather then fixed on Leslie Cheung. But Leslie’s songs will still be on top of the recommendation because this installation is in an exhibition related to him. Instead of having fixed songs in certain cassettes, now the users can have more song to choose from.

In this week, we just use the class to ask any questions on our project and continue to complete our project and presentation. 

Reflection

This week class explore more on creativity and the possibilities to expand my project. I found it interesting, as using AI, it gives this project endless possibilities. I can think of many ways to implement AI into this project, but it needs to be something that fulfill users' needs too. AI is a great way to expand and improve a project, if use it wisely. 

Even though AI is really helpful, but I do still believe that human assistance is still the best when it comes to delivering a message. My idea is for an AI robot to explaining and guiding users in using my installation and also gives song recommendations to user. I believe that the AI robot will do a good job and assist the suer greatly, when human assistance is not provided in a museum.
